Who Put the Directory In TDI?

TDI is an general-purpose data transformation and transfer tool for both one-off data migration/washing jobs, as well as real-time synchronization and event-driven data flow. The solutions you build are easy to read and maintain, as well as share. Nothing directory-specific here.

The system does provide features making it ideally suited for directory work. However, it offers similar functionality for working with Notes, RDBMS's, files (XML, CSV, LDIF, ...), mail systems, message queues and a host of other protocols, transports, formats and APIs.

TDI is a nestled firmly in the heart of IBM's Tivoli Security portfolio. Together with the the high performance Tivoli Directory Server, it forms a compelling "meta-directory" story. Although that term (meta-dir) is largely misused and misunderstood in the industry, TDI lets you craft the flow and transformation of data necessary to realize the vision of the Enterprise Data Network: a holistic view of corporate data that is shared between enterprise processes and applications.

But why is there "directory" in the name? Good question.
